Despacito the song of Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi along with Daddy Yankee was released in 2017. It became the number streamed song at the period within the space of six months. This mix of reggaeton and pop music did not just draw an interest to this genre but also to Latin music as a whole. The Billboard Top 100 included four mostly Spanish songs from 2016 compared with two for 2015. During the height of Despacito's popularity, however 19 mostly Spanish tracks made the Top 100, and in 2020 there were 41 such songs. After Justin Bieber released his bilingual remix of Despacito in the year 2017 famous artists started to work with reggaeton musicians. Drake and Bad Bunny collaborated for the track MIA MIA (2018), while Madonna collaborated with Maluma for Medellin 2019, which was released in 2019. In the year 2020, some Reggaeton performers were expressing displeasure about the trend of the genre toward the mainstream. But a newer generation, such as Rauw Alejandro was keen to keep the trend going. The musician incorporated electronic dance music and others into his music.
