Lee Roy Selmon has a tradition that blends family scholarship football and community service. Selmon is the youngest of children from Lucious Selmon and Jessie Semon. They raised him on the farm they owned in Eufala. He played second in football and was the third brother who played for Oklahoma. The three brothers all made All-America. Lucious Jr. Dewey was one of the starters for the entire 1973 season. Lee Roy is the winner of both Outland Awards and Lombardi Awards. He was the best lineman in the entire nation. He won two championships and 32-1-1 in his three seasons as the Oklahoma's starting linebacker. Selmon was honored when the National Football Foundation named him an Scholar-Athlete for the 3rd time in 1975. Selmon earned a degree as an educator. Fourth service In college Lee Roy devoted ten hours per week to volunteer projects. In Tampa where he played, he joined the Buccaneers for nine seasons, and eventually became an all-pro. Also, he began an entrepreneurial career. He was an Account Representative for Tampa's First Florida Bank and worked in these organizations: Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute on the Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. The Junior Chamber of Commerce honored Lee Roy in 1982 for being one of the top 10 young men of the United States. Lee Roy weighed 256 lbs and was a tall of 6'2 inches. In his time at college, he was the captain of the team of 1975. In 1993, he was named assistant director of the University of South Florida. In 1988, he was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame. In addition, he was inducted into the GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame and the Pro Football Hall of Fame. In 1989 the Oklahoma City Chapter National Football Foundation awarded its Distinguished American Award Mr. Lucious Sr. Henry Bellmon is the Oklahoma governor that made the award.
